Wall Street Closing

NEW YORK, 09 Rabi’I, 1438,December 08, 2016, SPA — U.S. stocks closed sharply higher Wednesday, with the Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor’s 500 index hitting new records.The dollar fell against a basket of currencies. Light sweet crude oil for January delivery dropped 2.3 percent to $49.77 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while gold futures declined $2.10 to $1,175.40 per ounce.
The Dow climbed 297.01, or 1.54 percent, to 19,548.79. The broader S&P 500 index added 29.12, or 1.32 percent, to 2,241.35. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index gained 60.76, or 1.14 percent, to 5,393.76.
