Reem Al Hashimy heads meeting of National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals.

The National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals presented, during its 3rd meeting this year, the UAE’s plan to achieve its sustainable development goals, to be included in the agenda of next year’s United Nations, UN, High-level Political Forum.

The meeting in Dubai was headed by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, Chairwoman of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority and Head of the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, with the attendance of the committee’s members, who discussed the work and project updates on its agenda.

During the meeting, Al Hashimy expressed her happiness at meeting the committee’s members and for their participation, highlighting the effective role of all government authorities in the UAE’s overall advancement, on regional and international levels.

The meeting’s agenda included an analytical presentation by the work team of the authority responsible for the UAE’s performance in the “Sustainable Development Goals Indicators.”

The meeting also included a presentation on the updates of a sustainable development goals communication strategy, which is linked to the projects and plans of the committee.

Hanan Mansour Ahli, Director of the Competitiveness Culture Department, noted that the attendance of Al Hashimy in the meeting reflected the desire of the wise leadership to monitor their latest updates, and she enhanced the discussion with her participations and directives. She also praised the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in facilitating the process of communication and co-ordination with the UN work team that specialises in sustainable development goals.

Ahli also announced that the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals will host a regional conference that will be held in the country on 24th October, and will attract several experts on sustainable development from government and academic bodies and the private sector, who will discuss the means of co-operation in this regard.

On the sidelines of the meeting, there was an introduction to the “The Future’s Policies Factory” initiative, which was launched by the Youth Council of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority. The initiative targets the Emirati youth and calls on them to participate in creating ideas, initiatives and strategies related to sustainable development goals.
