Fourth Doha Film Festival Holds Closing Ceremony

Doha, November 24 (QNA) – The Fourth Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) held Saturday its closing ceremony after more than 87 films from across the world took part in the festival, in addition to the 19 films in the “Made in Qatar” category.
The festival’s Feature Narrative Jury chose Algerian film the Repentant, directed by Merzak Allouache, as the Best Arabic feature narrative in this year’s festival. Tunisian actress Hend Sabri was one of the members of the Jury. Best Narrative Filmmaker award belonged to Nabil Ayouch, from Morocco, for ‘Horses of God.’ Tunisian actor Ahmed Hafiane was chosen by the jury as best actor for his performance in “The Professor.” The jury also chose Lebanese Rocket Society, directed by Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, as the Best Documentary Feature Film.
The Arab Film Competition had a total of 27 films this year, the festival’s largest selection yet, comprising seven documentaries, seven narrative features and 13 shorts from 10 Arab countries all competing for a total prize money of $440000.
Audiences at DTFF had the opportunity to vote for their favorite feature and documentary at DTFF screenings. Both films received US$50,000 each as prize money.
The festival’s audience chose Chinese feature film Full Circle and Searching for the Sugar Man as “The Best of the Fest.”  The festival was attended by a host of international and Arab celebrities such as Robert De Niro and Yousra. (QNA)
