Japanese economy grows 0.7 per cent in second quarter

Tokyo, Dhu-AlHijjah 07, 1437, September 08, 2016, SPA — Japan’s economy expanded at an annual rate of 0.7 per
cent in the April-to-June period, an improvement on the initial
estimate of just 0.2 per cent growth, the government said Thursday, according to dpa.
Private consumption, which makes up 60 per cent of output, edged up 0.2 per cent quarter-on-quarter, compared with a 0.7-per-cent increase in the January-to-March period.
Corporate investment, which Tokyo sees as key to boosting the world’s third-largest economy, decreased by 0.1 per cent, less than a preliminary estimate of a 0.4-per-cent fall, the Cabinet Office said.
The economy grew at an annual rate of 2.1 per cent in the January-to-March quarter.
