Unemployment in France drops for the third month

Paris, Rabi’I 27, 1438, December 26, 2016, SPA — Unemployment in France has dropped three months in a
row for the first time since 2008, the Ministry of Labour reported on
Monday, according to dpa.
In November, 3.45 million people were registered as unemployed, 31,800 fewer than in the previous month, representing a fall of 0.9 per cent and solidifying a positive trend in the labour market.
The decline, coming just few months before a presidential election, offers a glimmer of hope for the incumbent Socialists. Unemployment however remains high. According to the latest comparative data from European statistics office Eurostat from October, the French unemployment rate is 9.7 per cent, more than double that of neighbouring Germany.
French has suffered from high unemployment since the international financial crisis of 2008, and President Francois Hollande has not succeeded in fulfilling his 2012 election promise of reversing the trend.
