Arsenal fight back for secure draw at Bournemouth; Swansea off bottom

London, Rabi’II 06, 1438, January 04, 2017, SPA — Arsenal produced a stirring second-half fightback as
they came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 at Bournemouth on Tuesday, according to dpa.
Goals from Alexis Sanchez, Lucas Perez and Olivier Giroud snatched victory away from Bournemouth, who ended the game with 10 men after a red card for Simon Francis.
The result left Arsenal still fourth while Bournemouth, who led through goals from Charlie Daniels, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser, remained ninth.
“They started much faster and with 20 minutes to go we were 3-0 down so that’s a mental test (but) we refused to lose the game,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said.
“Bournemouth deserve a lot of credit but the disadvantage is too big to play against a team with three and a half days recovery (compared to two days for Arsenal).
“That’s too big a handicap. But they are a good team with quality and they played with pace.” Wenger brought on Perez and Gabriel in the second half and Wenger’s substitutions paid off.
“We had some players at half time who had problems (so) I changed it early in the second half.
“We dropped two points but we have to do better in the other games and hope other teams will drop points.” Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said the sending-off was harsh.
“In the end the quality of their players showed,” he said.
“The emotion is one of disappointment but we can’t forget what the players did in the first half of that game.
“We have to remember how far we’ve come and what we’re doing and at what level. But we’re here to win which is why this hurts so much.” The arrival of Swansea’s new manager Paul Clement worked wonders as his new side won 2-1 at Crystal Palace.
Clement, who left his job as assistant manager at Bayern Munich to join Swansea, was in the dugout for the second half as Swansea moved off the bottom of the table.
Alfie Mawson headed Swansea ahead and though Wilfried Zaha volleyed an equalizer, substitute Angel Rangel snatched a late winner to leave Hull rock bottom.
Swansea’s caretaker manager, Alan Curtis, who picked the side, said the team will have surprised new manager Clement.
“It is a terrific result for us and a huge three points,” he said.  “We have been accused of lacking character but we came back and won it and I thought we deserved it. “In training you can see the players have the ability, it is just the confidence that has been lacking. We deserved some luck today.” Stoke beat Watford 2-0 in the night’s other match with Ryan Shawcross and Peter Crouch grabbing the goals.
Swansea caretaker manager/coach Alan Curtis has nearly lost his voice but he says his side deserved the win tonight.

U.S. Construction Spending Hits 10-Year High

Washington, Rabi’II 5, 1438, Jan 3, 2017, SPA — U.S. construction spending rose more than expected in November, reaching its highest level in more than 10 years, the government reported Tuesday, possibly signaling higher fourth-quarter economic growth.
The Commerce Department said construction spending rose 0.9 percent in November after a 0.6 percent increase the previous month. Spending was up 4.1 percent from a year earlier.
The November improvement reflected solid advances in home construction, non-residential building, and government construction activity. The gains in all three categories pushed total construction spending to an annual rate of $1.18 trillion, the highest level since April 2006, near the peak of a housing boom.
The better-than-expected November gain and October’s upwardly-revised spending figure could prompt economists to lift their gross domestic product (GDP) estimates for the fourth quarter of 2016. Economists believe construction will continue to show gains in 2017, reflecting a strong labor market with unemployment at a nine-year low.
In the November report, spending on private-sector construction projects jumped 1 percent to its highest level since July 2006, as single-family homebuilding, as well as home renovations, increased.
Investment in private non-residential structures—including factories, hospitals, and roads—rose 0.9 percent in November after dropping 1.5 percent the previous month.
Public-sector construction spending increased 0.8 percent in November, rising for the fourth consecutive month to its highest level since last March. Spending on state and local government projects rose 0.6 percent, also gaining for a fourth consecutive month. Spending on federal government construction jumped 3.1 percent after rising 0.2 percent in October.
