New York, 28 Rabi’II, 1438,January 26, 2017, SPA — The U.S. dollar fell to a seven-week low versus a basket of other currencies.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 43 cents to $52.75 a barrel after the U.S. government reported rising crude and fuel inventories. Gold futures for February delivery fell $14.30 to $1,196.50 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 155.80, or 0.8 percent, to 20,068.51. The broader Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose 18.30, or 0.8 percent, to 2,298.37, a new record high.
The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 55.38, or 1 percent, to 5,656.34, also a new record high.
