Unemployment Rate in Eurozone Reaches 2009 Low

Brussels, The unemployment rate in the Eurozone fell to 9.6% in December, its lowest level since May 2009.

Data released today by the Eurostat showed that less than 15.6 million people were unemployed in the 19-country euro area in December, which is a decrease of 121,000 compared to November. Germany had the lowest rate of unemployment in the Eurozone at 3.9 percent, while Greece had the highest level with 23 percent.

Overall in the 28 EU countries, the unemployment rate remained at 8.2 percent in December, which is the lowest since February 2009. Compared to December 2015, unemployment rate fell last month in 24 of the bloc’s 28 countries.
