Eurozone Inflation Up to 1.9 per cent in April

Brussels- Annual eurozone inflation rose to 1.9 per cent in April, the European Union statistics office Eurostat said on Friday.

Consumer prices were up 1.5 per cent in the previous month.

The rise is mainly due to a spike in energy prices, according to preliminary data released by Eurostat.

At 7.5 per cent, energy prices were still rising faster than the prices for services and non-energy industrial goods in April.

The inflation figures mean that consumer prices have roughly been in line with the European Central Bank’s annual inflation target of 2 per cent for two consecutive months in the 19-member currency bloc.
