Doha, – Al Khor Book Fair concluded Saturday after 17 publishing houses from Qatar and the Arab world participated in the event organized by the Public Libraries and Heritage department at the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

The event provided a large variety of books for the public along with a number of cultural and artistic events. There will also a number of activities held on the sidelines of the book fair. Speaking to Qatar News Agency, Librarian of Al Khor Public Library Abdul Karim Al-Humaidi said that the book fair was an attempt to attract students from Al Khor schools and promote to them the importance of reading as a daily habit. He stressed that holding similar events in the future will lead to substantial results in that regard.

He added that future events will have an even wider range of books and will not be exclusively for children. He expressed his thanks to the Ministry of Culture and Sports and Qatar Charity for supporting the first Al Khor book fair. He noted that the ministry have placed a clear plan to all public libraries in the country to hold similar events to promote reading among children and to attract Qatari writers and intellectuals to those events as well.
