Abu Dhabi, -Winners of the 11th Sheikh Zayed Book Award were honoured tonight by UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the grand annual ceremony on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi international Book Fair.

Sheikh Saif honoured among others, the Moroccan historian and scholar, Abdallah Laroui, for being named the Cultural Personality of the Year for the award’s eleventh session 2016-2017. The title recognises prominent figures for their unique contributions to the advancement of Arabic culture, and for works that portray tolerance and promote peaceful coexistence.

Sheikh Saif also presented prizes to other eight winners: The ‘Literature’ Award.

The Sheikh Zayed Book Award was inaugurated in 2007, intended to promote scholarship and creativity in Arab culture.

It carries cash prizes totaling Dhs7 million � with AED750,000 per winner (equivalent to USD 204, 231.68) in all eight categories (including the Arab Culture in non- Arabic Language category).

The winners also receive a certificate of merit and a Gold Medal.(QNA)
