NEARLY 200 FEARED DEAD IN TWO MIGRANT SHIPWRECKS OFF LIBYA COAST

Geneva, – Nearly 200 people were feared to have died in two shipwrecks during the weekend on the world’s busiest sea migration route – the Mediterranean Sea channel between Libya and Italy.

“A total of over 193 migrants lost their lives in the Med last weekend. Many rescued migrants bear signs of torture suffered in Libya,” a spokesman for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Flavio Di Giacomo, wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, the IOM’s Libya office reported that seven people, six men and one woman, were picked up off the north-western city of Zawiya, and one of the survivors told rescuers that 113 other passengers were missing. (QNA)
