HH THE EMIR ISSUES NATIONAL SERVICE LAW

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, issued on Wednesday, the Law No. 5 of 2018, regarding the National Service.

The law shall be effective starting the following day of its publication in the official gazette.

According to the law:

– Every Qatari male shall be assigned to the national service, provided that he turned 18 years old, or has obtained a high school certificate or equivalent, whichever is earlier, and does not exceed 35 years of age.

– It is not allowed to appoint any Qatari male in governmental or non-governmental jobs, grant him a license to practice any profession, or register him in the employees’ registry, unless he completed his national service, got exempted or excluded from it, or had it postponed, in accordance with the provisions of this law.

– The assignee should go to the National Service Academy in the Ministry of Defence within 60 days, after he turns 18 years old, or after obtaining a high school certificate or equivalent, whichever is earlier.
