QATAR TO SEND TRADE DELEGATION TO PARAGUAY

ASUNCION, Representatives of Qatar’s state investment office will travel to Paraguay this June to strengthen trade relations, the Qatari deputy foreign minister and Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes announced after meeting on Monday.

The Qatar Investment Authority delegation will look into potential projects in the South American nation.

The visit was announced by the Paraguayan ambassador to Qatar, Angel Ramon Barchini, at a press conference following a meeting between Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi and Cartes at the presidential residence in Asuncion.

Qatar wishes to continue being the distribution center for the entire Arab world and also for the countries of Africa, thanks to its strategic location. Many possibilities and projects are being analyzed and that is why a delegation of the Qatar Investment Authority will travel here in June to give us its response, Barchini said.

The ambassador indicated that both parties plan to maintain and strengthen trade relations when Paraguay’s president-elect, Mario Abdo Benitez, takes office Aug. 15.

In that regard, Barchini announced that Al-Muraikhi will meet this Tuesday with Abdo Benitez and his prospective foreign minister, Luis Alberto Castiglioni.

Asked about specific investments that Qatar plans to make in Paraguay over the next few years, Barchini said they will be focused on the infrastructure and food production sectors.–NNN-EFE

Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world and obviously a $5 billion investment in infrastructure works, which will probably occur, will be a very important benefit for our country, he said.

The other sector will be in the area of food products, with a policy of investment in the principal categories of exports from Paraguay, such as poultry meat and beef, rice and soy.
