ACI Increases Investment In Middle East With New Student Fellowship

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., July 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — The American Concrete Institute is pleased to announce the availability of a new fellowship specifically for students studying in the Middle East region.

Funded by the American Concrete Institute and administered by the ACI Foundation, the Middle East Fellowship is open to graduate students currently attending a university in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, or the United Arab Emirates. The winning student will receive $10,000 USD in educational support, full funding to attend two upcoming ACI Conventions, and more.

“The American Concrete Institute’s comprehensive plan to increase knowledge-sharing in the Gulf region is strengthened by this new graduate student fellowship,” stated Ronald G. Burg, P.E., Executive Vice President, American Concrete Institute. “Great innovations are occurring now in the Middle East, and supporting future concrete innovators is key to advancing the concrete industry globally.”

ACI Foundation fellowship and scholarship awards are made possible through generous contributions by ACI, ACI chapters, corporate donors, and individuals within the concrete community. With the addition of the new Middle East Fellowship, the ACI Foundation will administer fellowships and scholarships for up to 20 students during the 2019-2020 academic year. Applications and more information about all fellowships and scholarships is available at acifoundation.org. Fellowship applicants must be sponsored by an ACI Faculty Network member. Deadline to apply is November 1, 2018.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak attends French embassy reception.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, attended this evening a reception hosted by Ludovic Pouille, French Ambassador to the UAE, to celebrate his country’s national day anniversary.

The reception, held at Ritz Carlton Hotel in Abu Dhabi, was also attended by Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Saeed Abdullah Al Qamzi, Director of Visits Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, members of the Arab and foreign diplomatic corps accredited in the UAE and members of the French community in the country.

Ambassador Pouille praised the excellent relations between the UAE and France and the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Youth team to face Valencia in COTIF Football Tournament

MADRID, Spain, The Organizing Committee of COTIF International Football Tournament announced on Saturday the match schedule of the prestigious event which will take place from July 28 to August 8 in Spain.

The opening match will see Qatar youth team lock horns against Valencia team, followed by the second match against Uruguay on July 30 and Qatar youth will conclude their campaign against Russian counterparts on August 2.

The prestigious championship will bring together ten nations, including Argentina, five teams will play in one group and only two team of them will cruise their way into semifinals stage.

DOHA, Qatar’s Junior Handball team arrived in Sultanate of Oman for 16th edition of Asian Men’s Junior Handball Championship will take place from 16-26 July in Salalah, Oman.

Qatar junior team delegation to Oman is chaired by Mr. Khalifa Taiseer, the Assistant Secretary General of Qatar Handball Federation (QHF) accompanied by technical and managerial staff members and 19 players.

In the Asian Men’s Junior Handball Championship, Qatar is pooled in group B alongside Iraq, Palestine and Syria. Qatar team will begin campaign in the event against Syria on July 16, followed by a match against Palestine on July 17 and will face Iraq on July 18.

The Asian championship acts as qualifying tournament to 2019 IHF Men’s Junior World Championship 2019 scheduled in Spain
