Bassil invites Qatar Emir to attend Arab economic summit in Beirut

Caretaker Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil, on Tuesday handed Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, an invitation to attend the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, to be held in Beirut in January.

Bassil conveyed to Sheikh Tamim President Michel Aoun’s greetings, and maintained Lebanon’s “keenness on establishing the best relations with the state of Qatar that is hosting an active Lebanese Diaspora in the Qatari economy.”

Both sides agreed over the necessity of inter-Arab rapprochement and of restoring stability to the conflict-torn countries.

Bassil also met with his Qatari counterpart Mohammad bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani over the bilateral ties and the means to bolster them in the fields of trade and energy.
