Khatib: Summit decisions and Beirut Declaration made up for Arab leaders’ absence

Caretaker Minister of Environment, Tareq Khatib, said Monday that the decisions that followed the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit and the Beirut Declaration announced afterwards had compensated the absence of the Arab leaders from the event.

“Despite the attempts to undermine the importance of the economic summit, primary evaluation of its outcomes shows that the content of the final resolutions and the Beirut Declaration on the return of the displaced Syrians, only made up for the absence of some Arab leaders,” Khatib said in a series of tweets.

He also pinned hope on Qatar’s move to purchase Lebanese government bonds.

Moreover, he heaped praise of the summit’s organization and President Michel Aoun’s management of sessions and closing statement.
