DERASAT issues strategic report

Manama, The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (DERASAT) issued a strategic studies report entitled ‘Women’s Participation in Information Technology in the Kingdom of Bahrain for 2006-2010’, which was authored by researcher Dr. Fatima Al Subaie, an analyst at the Directorate of Studies and Research at DERASAT. It highlights the subject of women’s representation in the field of information technology, by providing an overview of the roles carried out by women in this field of work and the overall numbers represented, based on the analysis of IT education and employment data professions in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The report reviewed the main factors hindering the equal representation of women and the career advancement of women in the field of information technology as described in previous studies that covered the issue of women’s representation in the field of information technology in general. The study also touched on the role women play in the Arab world in political, economic and social development.

Dr. Al-Subaie stressed, “There is a need to highlight women in the field of information technology and provide them with the opportunity to contribute in line with the level of education and professional aspirations they have.”

The paper also concluded with some recommendations to enhance the participation and role of women in the field of Information Technology in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
