Bahrain stun Qatar; bag gold medal

Manama, Bahrain’s national military football team shone in the seventh edition of the World CISM Military Games which concluded today in the city of Wuhan, China.

The national squad routed Qatar’s military team 3-1 in the final match which was held at Wuhan Stadium in the presence of 4622 football fans.

The match which kick-started at 03:00 PM (10:00 AM local time in Bahrain) was officiated by Algerian International football referee Lahlou bin Ibrahim.

National military team striker and top scorer Tiago netted twice for Bahrain, while the third was an own goal by a Qatari player.

Bahrain and North Korea had topped Group C table after totaling 7 points each and qualified to the quarterfinals. Bahrain beat Brazil and France and drew with North Korea in the group phase.

The national squad defeated highly-favoured Oman in the quarterfinal match 1-0 before beating Algeria in the semi-final by penalty shoot outs to book a berth in the final match.

The national team lined up in the final match Hamad Al-Dosary (goalkeeper), Qutbeddine, Khalifa Allafi, Ibrahim Khoujali and Yahya Enfahi (defenders), Habib Haroon and Moises (midfielders) and Abdulla Mubarak, Tiago and Markisio (forwards).

International Military Sports Council (CISM) President Colonel Herve Piccirillo presented the national team players with the gold medals, while the silver and bronze medals went to Qatar and Algeria, which finished second and third respectively.
