Bahrain offers spotlight on latest military technologies

Manama, The Middle East Military Technology Conference (MEMTEC) in Bahrain is an opportunity to gain invaluable insights into the latest ideas and topics in the world of defence technology, the Commander-in-Chief of Bahrain Defence Force (BD) Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa has said.

The participants will thus be able to keep pace with the process of integration and balance in this vital military matter that is witnessing considerable development in the use of modern technologies in the military field, Shaikh Khalifa said as he opened the conference held under the auspices of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Modern technologies have an active role in the development of appropriate solutions to confront all threats and challenges facing states regionally and internationally, he added.

The conference is also an opportunity for the exchange of experiences and expertise by the participating countries in their drive to counter attempts to deal vigorously with cyber hacking and attacks on communications structures, networks, databases, and information, Shaikh Khalifa said in his speech.

The BDF Commander-in-Chief said that Bahrain International Defence Exhibition and Conference (BIDEC) 2019 has achieved a great success, becoming one of the fastest-growing exhibitions in the Middle and the most apt to attract exhibitors.

“We are particularly proud of the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander, of the second edition of BIDEC,” he said.

The event was held for the first time in 2017 and the edition was so successful that 62 per cent of the exhibitors signed up for the second edition before the end of the first one.

BIDEC offers excellent opportunities to showcase the latest new and innovative defence systems. It has also been an advanced platform for the latest technological developments and military systems, Shaikh Khalifa said.

“We are confident that the Bahrain International Defence Exhibition and Conference will be an opportunity to support investment in knowledge, digital transformation, and military industries, leading to the localization of the latest defence technologies suited to the needs and requirements of the Kingdom,” he said.

“The results of this international defence event will be crowned with great success thanks to the size and quality of the global participation.

We are also proud of the exceptional and professional preparations we have seen from the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Exhibition and Conference, chaired by His Highness Major General Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor and Commander of the Royal Guard. The exhibition and the conference have succeeded in establishing themselves among the most important defence exhibitions and intellectual meetings in the world.”

The successful experience of Bahrain’s defence institutions by working and participating in peacekeeping and countering threats in the region and the world, and their ability to participate in international efforts to reinforce stability and combat terrorism, require Bahrain to address the issue of new sources of threats using modern technologies, Shaikh Khalifa said.

The BDF Commander-in-Chief welcomed the speakers and participants in the conference sessions and stressed his confidence in their success.

“The conference sessions are a platform for exchanging ideas, discussing strategic visions and showcasing various model solutions for the most important technological developments in the military industries through a scientific platform for military and political thinkers. This reflects the active role of the Kingdom of Bahrain in keeping with all the changes and developments in the technical fields and modern technology in order to establish security and support the international peace process in cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries,” he said.
