Parma beat Lecce, eye Europa League zone at mid-season mark

Rome, Parma beat troubled Lecce 2-0 Monday to move within one point of the Europa League zone at the half-season point of the Italian Serie A.

Simone Iacoponi and substitute Andreas Cornelius struck for the hosts after the break to clinch a win that pushed them in seventh place on 28 points after a match that completed the league’s 19th round.

Promoted Lecce remained on 15 points, one above the three-team drop zone, Deutsche press agency (dpa) reported.

Sunday action saw champions Juventus (48) win 2-1 at Roma to go top past Inter Milan (46), who were held 1-1 against Atalanta on Saturday.
