The total sales of local vegetables during last April reached 3287 tons and 746 kg, of which (504,120 tons) were sold through the Outstanding Product program while (2783,626) tons were sold through the Qatar Farms program. These products are available at a number of major Consumer Complexes such as Lulu, Carrefour, Al-Meera and Family Catering and others.
Local product marketing programs aim to improve the local marketing method of Qatari vegetables, increase the demand for locally produced vegetables, reduce production loss to a minimum and increase the income of Qatari farmers in order to encourage increased investment in the agricultural field, and the availability of local vegetables at Consumer Complexes throughout the year.
Overseeing local product marketing programs is the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The Ministry has spearheaded the ‘Outstanding Product’ and ‘Qatar Farms’ marketing programs for Qatari vegetables in Consumer Cooperatives. This is in order to provide the opportunity for Qatari farmers to display their local production of first class vegetables in Consumer Cooperatives with high quality and affordable prices for the consumer without an intermediary, and without the farmer having to pay any financial commissions for that.
