Ibrahimovic’s brace seals AC Milan’s win in city derby with Inter

Rome, AC Milan’s ace Zlatan Ibrahimovic sealed a 2-1 defeat of Inter Milan in Saturday’s city derby to help the Devils go top of the Italian Serie A, said dpa international.

The 39-year-old Swede slammed home his first on 13 minutes, pouncing after Samir Handanovic had parried a penalty he took after being floored by Aleksandar Kolarov.

A low cross from Rafael Leao found the veteran three minutes later and though Inter pulled one back on 29, as Romelu Lukaku turned in Ivan Perisic’s feed, Milan held on.

The Rossoneri, now on 12 maximum points and a 9-1 goal difference, moved past Atalanta, who crashed 4-1 at Napoli in the weekend opener and stayed on nine.

The Mexican striker Hirving Lozano hit a quick double to open the scoring as the Neapolitans netted three goals in seven minutes, with Matteo Politano was on target in the 30th before Victor Osimhen added a fourth on 43.

The Bergamo guests, who had scored 13 goals in the first three games, pulled one back from Sam Lammers after the break.

“I did not expect such a win because I know what kind of squad Atalanta are,” Napoli boss Gennaro Gattuso said. “We prepared it well. We put a great mentality and determination on the pitch.

“Atalanta are a team who can win the league. Another team could have conceded six or seven goals.”

Napoli are now third, one point behind Atalanta. The Naples side have appealed against the one-point deduction and the default defeat they were handed this week for not showing up against Juventus, claiming risks of coronavirus contagion after having two positives in the squad.

In Genoa, hosting Sampdoria won 3-0 against Lazio, who struggled with Golden Boot winner Ciro Immobile suspended. Fabio Quagliarella, another league veteran aged 37, opened Samp’s scoring with a header.

Champions Juventus visit promoted Crotone to complete the day’s programme. Five Sunday games and one on Monday complete matchday 4.
