US President Signs Bill to Raise Debt Ceiling

US President Joe Biden approved today a bill to raise the country’s public debt ceiling, after weeks of negotiations between Democrats and Republicans.

With President Biden signing the deal that was approved by the Senate on Friday and the Representatives on Thursday, the bill became effective.

Earlier, the US Congress passed the bill that raises the public debt ceiling until January 2025, in addition to setting a number of goals in the budget.

The passage of the bill allowed the United States to avoid defaulting on its debt by raising the debt ceiling.

Security Council Extends Mandate of UN Mission In Sudan

The UN Security Council (UNSC) on Friday unanimously approved resolution 3685 extending the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), for six month.

The Council reaffirmed all its previous resolutions and statements related to the situation in Sudan, as well as its strong commitment to the sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity of Sudan.

The resolution referred to the report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on the situation in Sudan and the activities of the United Nations mission there.

The resolution requested the Secretary-General to continue to provide the Security Council every 90 days with a report on the implementation of the mandate of the integrated mission, provided that the next report be submitted by August 30.

In a statement issued before the adoption of the resolution, the members of the Security Council emphasized the need for the parties to immediately cease hostilities, facilitate humanitarian access and establish a permanent ceasefire arrangement and to resume the process towards reaching a lasting, inclusive and democratic political settlement in Sudan.

Meteorology Department Warns of Strong Wind, High Sea

Weather inshore until 6:00 pm on Saturday will be hot daytime with slight dust and blowing dust to dusty at times at places daytime, the Department of Meteorology said in its daily weather report, warning of expected strong wind at places daytime.

Offshore will be slightly dusty to dusty at times later, the report added, warning of strong wind and high sea till noontime.

Wind inshore will be northwesterly 10 to 20 KT gusting to 28 KT at places daytime.

Offshore, it will be westerly – northwesterly 18 to 25 KT decreasing to 05 – 15 KT by afternoon.

Visibility will be 4 to 08/03 KM or less at places at times.

Sea state inshore will be 1 to 3 FT, rises to 4 FT at first. Offshore, it will be 5 to 8 FT, falling to 2 – 4 FT by afternoon.

5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Maca, Peru

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck the Maca region in Peru without immediate news of human or material losses.

In a statement, the US Geological Survey said that the quake occurred nine kilometers southeast of the Maca region at a depth of ten kilometers.

On Monday, the Pucallpa region in northern Peru was hit by a 5.1-magnitude earthquake without causing human or material damage.

Peru is exposed yearly to at least 400 earthquakes felt by the population due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a point of seismic activity that extends along the western coast of the South American continent.

Offshore, it will be Northwesterly – Westerly 05 – 15 KT reaches to 20 KT at places.

Visibility will be 4 to 08/02 kilometers or less at places at times.

Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla conveys HM King’s congratulations to Turkish President

Delegated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa attended this evening the inauguration of re-elected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the presidential palace in Ankara.

The Deputy Prime Minister delivered in a written message congratulations from HM the King, as well as wishes of success to President Erdogan in leading Turkiye to achieve further progress and prosperity for his people.

The Deputy Premier said that the Kingdom of Bahrain, led by HM the King with the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, takes pride in the adavanced level of bilateral relations binding the two countries.

He reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to further expand cooperation and strengthen partnership to benefit from the development strides in both countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister attended a dinner banquet hosted by President Erdogan at Cankaya Palace, in honour of the world leaders and their representatives who took part in the inauguration ceremony.

SCH President opens 3rd NHRA Conference, Exhibition

President of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), Lieutenant-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, today opened, in the presence of Health Minister, Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, the third National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA)’s Conference and Exhibition, held at the Diplomat Hotel.

The affiliates of the health sector in the kingdom, in addition to heads and officials of health entities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as well as partners participated in the three-day event, which is sponsored by the Labour Fund (Tamkeen).

Addressing the opening ceremony, the SCH President expressed pride in the unwavering support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the medical sector in the kingdom.

He also expressed delight over patronising the conference in which senior decision-makers and affiliates of the health sector are participating, noting that the conference is held in the midst of the challenges facing the organisation of the sector, which requires concerted efforts in order to achieve common goals.

Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla congratulated the NHRA on the recognition of the NHRA’s Accreditation Standards for Hospitals and Medical Centres by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua).

He also congratulated the NHRA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mariam Adhbi Al Jalahma, on being granted the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The SCH President asserted that the conference provides an important platform for health sector partners to discuss the organisational topics and the required standards, in light of the ongoing efforts to implement the National Social Health Insurance Program (Sehati), noting that the conference will contribute to achieving the common goals of developing the health sector and improving the services it provides.

NHRA Chief Executive Officer indicated that the importance of the conference is growing steadily, given its role in strengthening coordination and cooperation between local and international health entities.

She added that it provides a platform to discuss ways to develop health education and training, review the challenges facing the medical sector, discover investment opportunities and strengthen the kingdom’s cooperation with other countries in the fields of healthcare.

Shaikha Hessa Girls School hosts 16th graduation ceremony

Shaikha Hessa Girls Schools hosted its sixteenth graduation ceremony. The 2023 batch included forty-two students who graduated with a high school diploma and an International Baccalaureate diploma.

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and Supreme Council of Women (SCW) President, deputized SCW member and Injaz Bahrain Chairperson Her Highness Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa to attend the graduation ceremony.

Shaikha Hessa Girls Schools Chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa expressed thanks and gratitude to HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa,

He appreciated the presence of Her Highness Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa for attending the ceremony and distributing certificates to the graduates.

He also praised the school’s efforts in efficiently managing the educational operation and providing premium services, while keeping abreast of technological developments, in a way that serves the students’ interest and ensures the sustainability of education.

He hailed the school personnel, led by principal Samia Abdul Razzaq Al-Kooheji, extending congratulations to the students and parents for their success and their excellent results.

During the ceremony, Shaikha Hala bint Ali bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, a graduate of the Shaikha Hessa School for Girls, class of 2008 and a lecturer at the Bahrain Teachers College, delivered a speech as the guest of honor.

The ceremony which was held at the Four Seasons Hotel was attended by guests, officials, parents, the school’s administrative and educational staff bodies, and members of the Board of Directors.

During the ceremony, the outstanding graduates delivered speeches, expressing their joy, gratitude, loyalty and hope.

Bahrain participates in Dushanbe Grand Prix Championship 2023

The national judo team is participating in the Dushanbe Grand Prix Championship 2023.

The tournament is currently being held in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, a mide a wide participation from national teams in the Asian continent.

The delegation of the national team participating in the Dushanbe Grand Prix Championship includes the technical director of the Bahrain Judo Federation, the national coach Khaled Nabil Al-Arifi and assistant coach Safar.

The national team includes Ramazan Hakov (under-66 kg category), Beslan Bligtov (under-73 kg category) Askerby Gerbekov (under-81 kg category), Sulim Marev (under-90 kg category, Zelimkhan Basev (under-100 kg category) and Azmat Gutcaev (over-100 kg category).

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary meets Philippine counterpart

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Consular and Administrative Affairs Dr. Mohammed Ali Behzad held a meeting with Philippine Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Administration Antonio Morales.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed plans to establish Bahrain’s diplomatic mission to the Republic of the Philippines to reflect solid relations of friendship.

They discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two ministries in the field of administrative and consular affairs, in addition to issues of common concern.
