Qatar Participates in European Conference on International Education 2024 in France

Doha: The State of Qatar participated in the European Conference on International Education 2024 (EAIE), one of the leading global platforms for higher education to promote academic cooperation and knowledge exchange. The four-day conference took place in Toulouse, France, and Qatar showcased the “Study in Qatar” initiative.

This participation aims to highlight the development of Qatar’s education sector, which has seen significant growth in recent years due to substantial investments in education and research. It also reflects Qatar’s commitment to building a generation of leaders and innovators and enhancing the global academic environment through international partnerships. Additionally, the participation aims to attract international students to enroll in the academic programs available at national and private universities across various disciplines and degree levels.

Qatar’s participation in this event involves 11 higher education institutions, including the Ministry of Education and Higher Education,
Qatar University, Doha Institute of Graduate Studies, and Qatar Foundation, as well as universities from Education City, including Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Virginia Commonwealth University, Georgetown University, Carnegie Mellon University, Northwestern University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and the Academic Bridge Program.

In this context, Dr. Harb Al Jabri, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education, stated: “Our participation in the EAIE 2024 conference is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance academic and research collaboration with global educational institutions. Through this platform, the ministry aims to exchange experiences and best practices, benefiting the academic community in Qatar and abroad.” The participating universities at Qatar’s booth showcased their distinguished academic programs, research efforts, and joint projects with international institutions. Visitors also had the opportunity to learn about Qatar’s educational environment, the country’s initiatives to promote a
knowledge-based economy and innovation, the development of the higher education system, and academic exchange with various global universities.

It is worth noting that the European Conference on International Education serves as a platform for universities and academic institutions to exchange knowledge and explore academic partnerships, reflecting Qatar’s commitment to enhancing its position as a leading educational destination globally.

Iraqi Security Arrests 3 ISIS Members

Iraqi security forces announced today the arrest of 3 members of the Islamic State (ISIS) group south of the capital, Baghdad.

The Military Intelligence Directorate said in a statement that its units, based on accurate information, carried out special operations that resulted in the arrest of 3 ISIS members in the Rashidiya and Yusufiya sub-districts and the Sakhrijiya area south of the capital, Baghdad.

It should be noted that the Iraqi forces are still pursuing the remnants of the ISIS organization and its sleeper cells in various governorates of the country.

Ministry of Municipality Organizes Awareness Activities for World Cleanup Day

Doha: The Ministry of Municipality is organizing various awareness activities for all community groups to celebrate World Cleanup Day, aiming to enhance cleanliness awareness and encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Under the slogan “Cleanliness is Everyone’s Responsibility,” the Public Hygiene Department, under the supervision of the office of the Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs, is hosting a series of events at the Mall of Qatar from September 18-24. The events feature morning sessions for school students and evening sessions for the general public, with a booth made from sustainable, recyclable materials, interactive displays, and illuminated boards.

Activities include awareness lectures on public cleanliness law, the ministry’s inspection roles, the importance of recycling in sustainability, and entertaining competitions.

The team also introduced the waste sorting program and held multiple cleaning campaigns for beaches and islands, engaging with institutions and communities.

As part of
the World Cleanup Day celebrations, a week-long schedule has been established to implement nine cleaning campaigns for beaches and islands across Qatar. The initiative involves collaboration with various institutions and expatriate communities in the country.

The cleaning efforts target several locations, including the beaches of Abu Samra, Zekreet, Al Wakra Public Beach, Al Dhakira, Simaisma Family Beach, Al Kharaij, Freha, Al Khuwair Island, and the North Corniche. The campaign commenced with the cleanup of Abu Samra Beach, and work is ongoing to execute the scheduled cleaning activities throughout the week.

The ministry emphasizes the inclusion of people with disabilities in the activities, coordinating with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to offer workshops, educational sessions, competitions, and gifts at KidzMondo, Mall of Qatar, ensuring an interactive and educational experience for all.

Fire breaks out after Israeli bombing targets medicine warehouse in Rafah


Gaza – Ma’an – The Palestinian Civil Defense in Gaza succeeded on Saturday in extinguishing a large fire that broke out in a medicine warehouse belonging to the Ministry of Health, as a result of it being targeted by Israeli aircraft north of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

The Civil Defense published footage of the fire extinguishing operations that broke out in the Musbah area, north of Rafah, using simple and insufficient equipment due to the war and the stifling Israeli siege imposed on the Palestinian Strip.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced the martyrdom of 5 Ministry of Health workers and the injury of others, as a result of the Israeli raid on the medicine warehouses.

Ambulances were fired upon by Israeli army vehicles north of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

Israeli soldier seriously injured in Jenin


Tel Aviv – Ma’an – The Israeli army announced on Saturday evening that a soldier was seriously injured during an occupation army activity in Jenin, earlier today.

The army said that the soldier from the “Kharoub” unit of the Kfir Brigade was seriously injured when gunmen opened fire on the occupation forces that were carrying out an operational activity in Jenin.

He explained that the injured soldier was transferred to the hospital for treatment.

BIA commemorates Saudi National Day


Manama, Bahrain International Airport (BIA), operated by Bahrain Airport Company, commemorated Saudi Arabia’s 94th National Day with special festivities, in collaboration with the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and Bahrain Airport Services (BAS).

Committee for HRH Princess Sabeeka Award holds first meeting


Manama, The Committee for Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Award for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2024-2026) held its first meeting, chaired by Lulwa Saleh Al Awadhi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), at the SCW headquarters.

Lulwa Al Awadhi welcomed new committee members and provided an overview of the award’s progress in previous cycles. She noted an increase in participation, with 356 entries in the seventh cycle (2022), and highlighted the growing engagement of women in both the public and private sectors in 2023, with participation rates reaching 55% and 36% respectively. The number of equal opportunity committees in the public sector rose to 63 in 2024, with 25 in the private sector.

The committee reviewed its key responsibilities, including proposing the criteria for all award categories, nominating organisations and individuals, and submitting recommendations to the SCW President for final approval. Additionally, discussions focused on the Roy
al Decree (17) of 2019, which expanded the scope of the award to include civil society institutions and individuals, as well as the role of the international judging committee in overseeing the nomination process.

The committee also examined the evaluation criteria and emphasised the importance of reviewing all participation forms to provide feedback, and adjusting the criteria to reflect the award’s objective of recognising the advancement of Bahraini women.

The committee members include Shaikh Khalifa bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, CEO of Bahrain Bourse; Mariam Ahmed Jumaan, Chairperson of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and SCW board member; Dr. Abdulrahman Abdulhussain Jawahery, CEO of Bapco Refining; Hala Hussain Yateem, Chairperson of National Bank of Bahrain (NBB); Osama Saleh Al Alawi, Undersecretary for National Economy at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy; Maha Abdulhameed Mufeez, CEO of Tamkeen; Dr. Abdulrazzaq Mohammed Al Qahtani, Acting Deputy CEO for Operations at the Soc

Al Musallam highlights Bahrain’s pivotal role in global peace efforts


Manama, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, commended His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s approach and initiatives in promoting a culture of peace, coexistence, and tolerance. He highlighted HM the King’s efforts to foster dialogue and diplomacy as solutions to global conflicts, contributing to international peace, stability, and sustainable development.

In a statement marking the International Day of Peace, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the UN General Assembly’s “Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace,” Al Musallam noted Bahrain’s commitment to justice, equality, and achieving comprehensive peace in the region in supporting global peace efforts. Al Musallam underscored his pride in the King’s initiatives and the continued support from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He praised the Kingdom’s efforts in promotin
g peace through various projects and programmes, including the work of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) in providing aid and development support to affected nations.

He also referred to the King’s call, during Bahrain’s hosting of the IPU General Assembly, for an international convention to criminalise religious, sectarian, and racial hate speech, promoting a culture of peace and fraternity among nations. Al Musallam stressed the importance of integrating these values into educational, religious, cultural, and sports activities.

The Speaker affirmed that Bahrain’s commitment to the values of peace is deeply rooted in its National Action Charter, Constitution, and national laws. Both the legislative and executive branches continue to support Bahrain’s strategic choice of peace.

He pointed out the UN General Assembly declaration on this occasion emphasized that peace was not as the absence of conflict but as a participatory process requiring dialogue and cooperation, centred on respect for human right
