Early Voting for the US Presidential Elections Begins in 3 States

Early voting for the U.S. presidential election officially kicked off on Friday with the opening of polling stations in Virginia, Minnesota, and South Dakota.

Video footage shared by U.S. television networks showed voters lining up in Virginia to cast their ballots. Early voting in the state is set to continue until November 2.

Meanwhile, Minnesota and South Dakota offered voters a different option, joining the 23 states that allow voters to hand-deliver their absentee ballots to polling places or other designated locations instead of mailing them.

With early voting becoming increasingly popular over the past decade, experts predict a significant turnout of early voters in this year’s general election.

It’s worth noting that during the 2020 election, more than 69 percent of voters cast their ballots either by mail or through early in-person voting, according to data collected by the MIT Election Data and Science Lab. This figure was 40 percent in the 2016 election and 33 percent in the 2012 election.

Al Raya Calls on UN Security Council to Intervene and End Israeli Aggression on Gaza

Doha: Al Raya newspaper called on international legitimacy, represented by the United Nations and the UN Security Council, to amend its approach toward the Palestinian people by immediately halting the Israeli aggression, holding Israel accountable for its crimes, and enabling the Palestinians to establish their state based on the 1967 borders.

The paper warned in its editorial today that, as the Israeli criminal aggression on the Gaza Strip approaches its first anniversary, humanity is witnessing one of its worst moments due to the disgraceful international failure to lift the injustice off the people in Gaza. The number of martyrs has surpassed 41,000, with hundreds of thousands injured, displaced, and missing, in what is one of the greatest humanitarian disasters of the 21st century.

Al Raya also said that Israeli massacres have exceeded all limits, particularly as the ethnic cleansing of the defenseless Palestinian people is taking place in full view of the world and the countries supporting the occupat
ion, which continue to provide it with lethal weapons. It stressed that the continued international indifference to Israel’s actions over the past year in Gaza reveals a double standard in dealing with the daily massacres committed by the criminal occupation against Palestinians.

In this context, the newspaper noted the renewed condemnation by the Gulf Cooperation Council states of the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, the deliberate targeting of civilians, their forced displacement, and the attacks on the West Bank. It called on the international community to exert all necessary pressure on Israel to immediately stop its aggression and to comply with its obligations under the law, allowing the Palestinian people to enjoy all their legitimate rights, especially the right to self-determination.

It argued that Israels deliberate violation of all international values and charters and its disregard for international law stems from the absence of accountability and punishment for its crimes, which allows it to
ignore international resolutions amid a blatant and deliberate disregard for international law, international institutions, and even the basic principles of humanity.

Al Raya concluded by stating that the commitment to international laws and humanitarian issues cannot be fragmented or selectively applied in one part of the world while ignored in another. Such double standards are unacceptable, as the sanctity of people’s blood and their rights are equal, regardless of location.
