Fillies and colts shine on first day of 9th Qatar National Arabian Horse Show for Individual Owners

The 9th Qatar National Arabian Horse Show for Individual Owners began at the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab, Member of Qatar Foundation, on Friday, 2 April, with as many as 150 contenders participating in the qualifying classes on the first day.

Friday saw yearling fillies and colts, 2yo fillies and 3yo fillies vying for attention for a shot at the championship gold on the third and final day of the competition on Sunday.

The day began with Ebrahim Bin Yousef Al Romaihi’s MAALY taking the top spot in Class 1A for Yearling Fillies with 90.60 points, in front of Al Khor Stud’s THABYA AL KHOR (90.20) and Saad Salem Al Hajri’s DHAI AL SALEM (89.70).

In Class 1B for Yearling Fillies, it was Aljazeel Stud’s FARIDA NWA who impressed the judges with the most earning 90.50 points, while Mohammed Mubarak Al Sulaiti’s RAJWA LEMBARAK (90.20) and Yousef Al Kuwari’s ROYAL TITANIA AS (89.90) finished second and third respectively.

The final qualifying yearling class for fillies saw a tie at the top for overall points between Al Jamal Stud’s ELHAM AL JAMAL and Aljazeel Stud’s SHADI AL NASSER at 91.50. Elham Al Jamal took the top spot having earned half a point more on Type than her rival. Al Marroona Stud’s QATAR AL MARROONA took the third spot with 90.30 points.

Al Sraiya Stud’s ALALIYA AL SRAIYA amassed 92.10 points to top Class 2A for 2yo Fillies while Ebrahim Bin Yousef Al Romaihi’s IS SHEREEN, gold champion among the yearlings at 23rd Qatar National Arabian Horse Show in January this year, was second with 91.80 points. Al Hazm Stud’s CELINE AH STUD rounded out the top three with 91.20 points.

In Class 2B for 2yo Fillies, Al Reeh Stud’s ROSE KAS won with 91.60 points, while judges had to decide the next two spots on Move after Kaheel Stud’s TARA KL and Khalid Al Qahtani’s RIFAL AL BAIRAQ were locked at same overall points at 90.20 and also on Type. Tara KL was adjudged runner up ahead of Rifal Al Bairaq.

Ghanim Mubarak Nasser Al Kuwari’s GHALIAH AL KHEESA narrowly edged out Al Yacoub STUD’S AAHD AL YACOUB for the top spot in Class 2C for 2yo Fillies with 91.40 points to the latter’s 91.30. Al Marroona Stud’s LULU AL MARROONA was awarded 90.90 points.

Al Sraiya Stud-owned fillies took the top two spots in the Class 3A for 3yo Fillies with AMIRATA winning the class with 91.80 points. TEMOOH AL SHAHANIA and HEBOOB AL SHAHAHNIA were locked in at 91.10 points and also on Type, before Move broke the deadlock and the former was adjudged to have finished second.

In the final class for fillies on Friday, Al Sraiya Stud took yet another victory with ANOUD AL SRAIYA earning 91.70 points for the win, while Al Jood Stud’s JUHAINA AL JOOD (90.80) and Muhammad Mesned Al Misned’s JAMILAH AL RASHEED (90.70) finished second and third respectively.

KAYID AL JAZEEL led a one-two for the owners Aljazeel Stud in the first qualifying class for colts — Class 4A for Yearling Colts. While Kayid Al Jazeel won with 90.90 points, BARIZ OS finished second with 90.40 points and EZZ IMPERIAL of Ezz Elkhail Stud was third with 90.30 points.

In the last qualifying class of the day, 4B for Yearling Colts, it was Al Ammar Stud’s SHANGAR AL AMMAR that took the top spot in one of the closest contests in the day with 90.40 points. Masod Rashid Al Athbi’s RAYYAN AL ATHBA finished second with 90.30 points, in front of third placed BAGHDAD AL HAZZA, owned by Al Hazza Stud, with 90.00 points.

The three day competition will continue today with qualifying classes for 2yo and 3yo Colts, and mares and stallions, while all six championship rounds — yearling colts and fillies, junior colts and fillies, and mares and stallions — will be held on Sunday.
