H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, met Friday morning with Guido Saracco, President of Politecnico di Torino, at the University headquarters in the Italian City of Turin. Established in 1859, Polytechnic University of Turin is Italy’s oldest technical university offering several courses in the fields of engineering, architecture and industrial design.
During his meeting with the President and members of the administrative and academic staff at Politecnico di Torino, discussed ways of coordination and cooperation in the university academic affairs in various fields in general and in the fields of architecture in particular, which are related to infrastructure and the environment in its various components and contents.
Politecnico di Torino highly appreciated the interest of the Ruler of Sharjah in the scientific affairs and the establishment of distinguished academic and scientific universities in various specialisations, to qualify students, through their academic and scientific programmes, to achieve the highest aspirations and successes in their practical fields.
Following the meeting, H.H. visited the University’s Clean Water Research Centre, where he was briefed him on the Centre’s research laboratories, modern equipment and tools used in research work and study of water science in precise scientific ways.
The technical research department at the University’s Clean Water Research Centre demonstrated some of the ideas and modern researches that the department is working on and its experience in transferring these ideas from their research and laboratory framework into being advanced tools in the market. The department added that such researches focus on green energy science, modern technology in the service of the environment, mitigation of carbon emissions, water sterilisation techniques and power generation from waves.
Then, the Ruler of Sharjah went on to visit the University’s research centre for micro and advanced industries and technologies, where he identified the University’s efforts in developing the works and technologies of major international companies in the field of space, aviation, computers and telecommunications.
He was also briefed on the mechanism of the research centre and its role in achieving success of several and unique companies that cooperate with them in the fields of computers, telecommunications and aviation.
Politecnico di Torino is one of the world’s leading universities in the field of architecture, with many qualified professors and distinguished scientific laboratories, as well as leading academic curricula.
