Kuwaiti, Canadian foreign ministers discuss bilateral ties, regional developments

Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Shaikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, held Thursday talks with his Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly on boosting bilateral ties and broadening coordination regarding regional and international issues of common interest.

According to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), talks focused on all aspects of the close historical relations that bind the two friendly countries and the efforts to strengthen and develop them at various levels to serve the common interests.

They also discussed intensifying joint coordination and cooperation on many regional and international issues and continuing joint efforts to maintain international peace and security.

The two ministers reviewed regional and international developments including the security developments in Sudan, the international efforts to end the bloody conflict there. They tackled the situation in Syria and Yemen as well as the continuous escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories. They touched upon the developments in Ukraine and their repercussions at the regional and international levels, international endeavors to resolve the crises ravaging the region, humanitarian efforts in this framework and joint action to help preserve the world order, promote the values and principles of international law, and maintain international peace and security.

The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the establishment of a bilateral political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries, which reflected the determination of the two countries to develop and consolidate bilateral relations in all fields and at various levels, KUNA said.
