Ministry of Municipality stresses the importance of engaging the private sector in the waste management and recycling projects

The Second Waste Management Conference and Exhibition 2022 organized by the Ministry of Municipality concluded its events at Doha Sheraton on Tuesday evening.

The Waste Management Conference and exhibition witnessed a large number of participations from senior concerned officials, representatives of regional and international organizations, companies, national and international experts and specialists in the field of waste management and recycling.

Today the Second Waste Management Conference continued its program with a panel discussion in the presence of the Minister of Municipality H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change H.E. Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani, as well as, Vice President of Qatar University for Research and Graduate Studies Dr. Mariam Al Ali Al Maadeed and Sheikh Ahmad bin Nawaf bin Mubarak al Thani the acting chairman of Suhail Industrial Holding Group.

During the panel discussion, H.E. Minister of Municipality said: we count on raising awareness and involving all stakeholders in addition to the role of the private sector to achieve the strategic goals for the growth of the circular economy in the State of Qatar through the Integrated National Solid Waste Management Program. During the panel discussion, H. E. Abdul Aziz bin Turki Al Subaie assured the importance of involving the private sector in the waste management and recycling projects, stressing that the private sector will have a great role during the following period as it will be granted more opportunities wishing it better upgrading.

H.E. revealed an experience to provide the private sector?s companies with the opportunity by assigning the cleaning operations in 3 out of 8 municipalities to them, the cleaning operations will be assigned through the investment in the equipment and the individuals for 5-7 years. H. E. stressed that if this experience succeeds, it will be expanded to all municipalities. H E. added that the operations of the Relay Stations including transferring and management will be completely assigned to the private sector which will allow us to rely more on this sector. Moreover the old landfills will be re habilitated to be offered in the future. HE added that land has been allocated to factories concerned with this field to encourage them develop the field of recycling.
