Qatar has signed an agreement with the Palestinian Authority to operate the only power plant in the Gaza Strip using natural gas instead of industrial fuel, a Qatari official said on Sunday. Qatar’s Gaza Reconstruction Committee (GRC) Chief Mohammed Al-Emadi said in a press statement sent to The New Arab that the agreement included mechanisms for supplying and purchasing gas necessary to operate the power plant. “Doha will fund about $60 million for the construction of the gas pipeline from an Israel-based supplier company to the Gaza border,” Al-Emadi said.
