Manama, Under the patronage of the Supreme Council for Health (SCH) President, Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) is organising the first International Obstetrics and Gynaecology Conference, which will be held on January 9-11, 2020, at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel in Manama.
On the occasion, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department Head in AGU Dr Diaa Rizk stated that the conference will be held under the theme Recent Advances in Women’s Health and is expected to be attended by around 200 individuals working in the health sector, adding that the conference will host two specialised workshops, and said that a total of 34 scientific research papers will be reviewed throughout the three days of the conference.
Dr Rizk also pointed out that the conference will host 11 external speakers; Dr Abdullah Al Khan, Vice President and Director of the Department of Maternal and Foetal Medicine at Hackensack University Medical Centre in the US, Dr Ares J. Antslis, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at the University of Athens in Greece, Dr Marco Butarelli, Consultant at the Endocrinology and Infertility Unit at Canton Hospital Ticino in Switzerland, among other speakers from Czech Republic, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Turkey and Qatar.
The conference will address various topics that aim to develop the knowledge and skills of healthcare staff working in the women’s health sector in the GCC region. Several scientific and clinical developments would be discussed during the conference, shedding light on issues such as pelvic floor problems, fertility impairment and assisted reproduction, gynaecological oncology and critical pregnancy.
The conference would also have special emphasis on laparoscopic surgical procedures, new therapeutic techniques, and modern and advanced strategies in women’s health, that is in addition to hosting two specialised workshops in clinical skills for obstetrics and gynaecology.
On his part, Dr Rizk called upon workers in the medical field, including obstetrics and gynaecology consultants, resident doctors and trainees at the obstetrics and gynaecology department, family doctors, medical students, midwives, nurses and physiotherapy specialists to register for the conference and avail from the scientific topics that will be presented in it.
A valuable award has been allocated for the best participating research poster in the conference. An exhibition will also be held on the side-lines of the conference for medical centres and contributing companies that provide health services to women.
