UNHRC Holds Special Meeting on Sudan on May 11

The United Nations announced that its Human Rights Council (UNHRC) will hold a special meeting on May 11 to discuss the impact of the confrontations that Sudan has been witnessing since mid-April on human rights in the country.

In a statement, UNHRC said that this emergency meeting comes at the joint official request submitted by the United Kingdom, Norway, the United States and Germany, pointing out 52 countries supported the request so far.

The situation is getting more complicated in Sudan in light of the confrontations between the army and the Rapid Support Forces for about three weeks, the mutual lack of respect for the six ceasefire agreements, the wave of displacement towards neighboring countries, and a severe shortage of food and health services.
