Palestine Requests Extraordinary Session of the Arab League Council at Level of Permanent Representatives


Cairo: The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, has announced that his country has submitted a request to convene an extraordinary session of the Council of the Arab League at the level of permanent representatives. The session is scheduled to take place this week. It will focus on the policy of confronting the crimes of genocide, Israeli aggression, and settlement expansion that the occupation government recently approved.

In a statement issued today, Ambassador Al-Aklouk stated that the request for this meeting is a response to the ongoing genocide perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people for nine consecutive months, as well as the recent approval of a series of aggressive sanctions by the occupation government against the State of Palestine.

China Launches Zhongxing-3A Satellite

China successfully sent a new satellite into space from the Wenchang Space Launch Site on the coast of southern island province of Hainan.

The satellite, Zhongxing-3A, was launched on Saturday evening by a modified version of the Long March-7 carrier rocket and entered the planned orbit successfully, according to China’s News Agency (Xinhua).

Designed as a communication and broadcasting satellite, the satellite will provide voice, data, radio and television transmission services.

This marks the 526th mission for the Long March series carrier rockets.

4.8-Magnitude Earthquake Hit Northeastern Colombia

An earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale hit the Santander department in northeastern Colombia.

The epicenter of the earthquake occurred 1 km from the city of Cepita in the department, at a depth of 155.9 km, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

There have been no reports yet of any human or material losses resulting from the earthquake.

In 1999, Colombia was hit by an earthquake measuring 6.1 magnitude which killed 1,185 people, left 700 others missing, injured at least 4,750 people, and displaced about 250,000 people. The city of Armenia was the most affected by the earthquake.

Israeli Occupation Warplanes Break Sound Barrier in Lebanon

Israeli occupation warplanes broke the sound barrier over areas in Lebanon.

Israeli warplanes broke the sound barrier twice last night while flying at a low altitude above Jezzine. They also broke the sound barrier over Marjayoun, Rachaya, and the Central Beqaa region.

Additionally, Israeli warplanes broke the sound barrier twice at low altitude over Nabatieh and Iqlim al-Tuffah, creating a loud noise. Another sound barrier breach occurred over Matn and Keserwan, causing panic among residents, Qatar News Agency correspondent in Beirut said.

Lebanon’s Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati called on the Israeli entity to stop its repeated attacks on Lebanon and to stop the war in the Gaza Strip.

During a visit to southern Lebanon, Mikati said: “We are always advocates of peace, and our choice is peace and the implementation of Resolution 1701. Israel must stop its repeated attacks on Lebanon, and stop the war in Gaza, and everyone must implement International Resolution No. 2735.” “The threats that we are w
itnessing are a form of psychological warfare,” he added.

The Israeli entity continues its attacks on towns and villages in southern Lebanon, coinciding with its ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7.

The Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon have resulted in civilian casualties and forced hundreds of families to flee their homes.

Qatar Media Corporation Wins 3 Awards in Arab Radio, Television Festival in Tunisia

Doha: The Qatar Media Corporation won three awards at the conclusion of the 24th Arab Radio and Television Festival, held in Tunis, Tunisia over four days under the slogan “Support for Palestine.” Qatar TV won the first prize for the documentary film “Museums in Qatar,” which showcased the distinctive museums of Qatar. It also secured the second prize for Program Exchanges of 2023, within the festival’s Arab Radio and Television competition in Tunisia. Additionally, Qatar Radio won the second prize in the “Notable Arab Figures” category.

The festival was attended by representatives from member organizations of the Arab States Broadcasting Union, specialists in directing, production, and program preparation, as well as representatives from private Arab production companies and Arab and international news agencies.

The winners were honored at the closing ceremony, which featured the “Spirit of the Arabs” performance by the Arab Symphony Orchestra at the Tunis Opera House, with participation from artists and m
usicians from 11 Arab countries, led by Egyptian maestro George Kolta.

The event included seminars supporting the Palestinian cause, such as one titled “The War on Media: Palestine as an Example,” highlighting the role of Palestinian and Arab media in exposing Israeli atrocities despite efforts at misinformation.

The festival, organized in cooperation with the Tunisian Ministry of Culture, Tunisian Television and Radio organizations, and the Arab Satellite Communications Organization, honored several Arab media personalities and featured 147 entries in its competitions – 108 in the main competition and 39 in the parallel competition.

The annual festival aims to enhance and elevate the level of Arab radio and television production to meet the aspirations of its member organizations and their principles. It also seeks to identify and encourage innovative and serious trends in Arab radio and television production, fostering Arab creative talents in this field.

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets India’s External Affairs Minister

Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met Sunday with HE Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who is visiting the country.

They discussed cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to support and develop them and several topics of common interest.
