5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesian Central Sulawesi Province

An earthquake measuring 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Thursday the Indonesian province of Central Sulawesi.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 88 km from the Bone Bolango Regency in the province, and at a depth of 16 km.

There have been no reports of material damage or human losses as a result of the earthquake so far.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
