Syria beats India, qualifies to the last 16 stage


Doha, Thanks to its won over the Indian counterpart, the Syrian football team qualified to the last 16 round of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 held in Qatar.

After emerging victorious in the match (1-0), and being among the best four teams which came third in the groups round leading to Group B, this is the first time for Syria to reach the qualifications to the 2nd round of Group 16 of AFC throughout its participation in this competition.

Ministry of Defense: several explosive devices in Daraa countryside dismantled, a drone downed


Daraa, Units of Syrian Arab Army in Daraa countryside dismantled several explosive devices on the side of the road in the towns of Busra al-Harir in the northeastern countryside of the province , while a border guard unit was also able to shoot down a drone near the Syrian-Jordanian border.

‘members of the engineering units of our armed forces operating in the Daraa countryside dismantled several explosive devices camouflaged in the shape of rocks by terrorists, prepared to target passers-by on the side of the road in the towns of Busra al-Harir and al-Muzayrib.’ The Ministry of Defense stated in a statement Tuesday.

The statement added: ‘One of the border guard units was able to shoot down a drone near the Syrian-Jordanian border.’

Syria regrets Jordanian air strikes on its territory, the country tries to contain the situation


Damascus, Syria expresses deep regret following the air strikes directed by the Jordanian Air Force on several villages and areas inside the Syrian territory, the most recent of which was the targeting of villages in the southern countryside of al-Suwaydaa governorate, killing a number of civilians, including children, women, and wounding others.

Such strikes at Syrian territories can’t be justified, the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement, underscoring that the country attempts to contain the situation within its keenness not to cause the tension between the two countries.

The political, media and military escalation Syria has witnessed during the recent months are not consistent with the agreements been reached upon between the Syrian-Jordanian committees set for cooperation in combating smuggling and drugs, the Ministry went on to say.

‘Foreign and Defense ministries along with Security officials in Syria sent messages to their Jordanian counterparts, suggesting taking practical and eff
ective steps for controlling the joint borders, and voicing Syria’s readiness to cooperate with the Jordanian Security institutions, but no response was received’, the statement read.

‘Syria confirms again that it is firm in combating terrorism and all forms of crimes related to smuggling and drug trafficking till eliminating them completely’, it stressed.

The Foreign Ministry concluded its statement saying’ Syria reaffirms that since 2011, it has suffered influx of thousands of terrorists and passage of huge quantities of weapons from neighboring countries, including Jordan, which led to the death of thousands of innocent people and caused great suffering to Syrians in various domains, not to mention destruction of infrastructure.’

Israeli occupation admits 24 officers and soldiers killed in Gaza Strip


Occupied Jerusalem, Israeli occupation admitted on Tuesday that 24 of its officers and soldiers were killed during clashes with Palestinian resistance in Gaza Strip.

The number of deaths admitted by the occupation since the beginning of targeting Gaza Strip has risen to 222, in addition to wounding thousands.

The Israeli occupation does not admit the real losses and the number of deaths during clashes with Palestinian resistance, which continues to confront its forces in the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding dozens of its officers and soldiers every day, and destroying its vehicles.

Arab writers Union condemns Israeli aggression on Damascus in strongest terms


Damascus, The General Union of Arab Writers has expressed condemnation in the strongest terms of the recent Israeli act of aggression that targeted a residential neighborhood in Damascus, stressing that it is a new crime added to its previous crimes.

In a statement, the Union strongly denounced the recent crime committed by the Zionist entity against Syria’s sovereignty which was represented in the act of aggression that claimed the lives of a number of civilians in a residential neighborhood in Damascus.

The statement added that this act of aggression has exposed the reality of the Zionist entity which claims that it respects the civilians’ right to life and not to intimidate or target them in times of war under the international legitimacy and the human rights principles.

The statement signed by the Secretary General of the General Union of Arab Writers and Head of the General Syndicate of the Egyptian Writers Union, Dr. Alaa Abdel Hadi, affirmed that the General Secretariat of Arab Writers, while condem
ning in the strongest terms this aggression, calls on the Arab nation and all honorable people in the world to condemn and denounce the Israeli actions towards Syria.

Abdollahian calls on the international community to take action to stop the Israeli attacks on Syria


Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian called on during his meeting with UN special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, the international community to make serious efforts to stop the Israeli entity’s attacks on Syria and the violation of its territorial integrity.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the situation in the region was discussed, According to the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).

Abdollahian stressed the need for the serious determination of the international community and the cooperation of the countries of the region and international institutions in order to combat terrorism decisively and effectively.

In turn, Pedersen expressed his appreciation for the constructive role played by Iran in combating terrorism and helping in the political solution to the crisis in Syria, including its constructive role in the Astana process.

Iraqi resistance targets Ashdod Port in occupied Palestine with drones


Baghdad, The Iraqi resistance announced Tuesday that it targeted the port of Ashdod in occupied Palestine with drones.

‘In continuation of our approach to resisting the occupation and supporting our people in Gaza, and in response to the massacres committed by the usurping entity against Palestinian civilians, including children, women and the elderly, our fighters attacked the port of Ashdod in our occupied territories with drones,’ the resistance said in a statement.

Last night, the Iraqi resistance targeted with missiles the US occupation forces positioned in the Koniko oilfield in Deir Ezzor countryside.

Third South Summit demands that Israel withdraw from the occupied Arab territories


Kampala, Participants in the 3rd South Summit called on the Israeli occupation to withdraw from the occupied Syrian Golan and from all occupied Arab territories, while affirming their complete rejection of all forms of unilateral measures imposed on developing countries.

At the conclusion of their work Monday in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, the summit participants adopted a document in which they called on ‘Israel’, the occupying power, to withdraw from the occupied Syrian Golan and the rest of the occupied Lebanese and Palestinian territories, and to immediately and completely lift the Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip, which constitutes widespread collective punishment.

They also called for the full and immediate implementation of relevant international resolutions, including the resolutions taken by the United Nations in the wake of the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip for the fourth month.

The document called for the complete dismantling and immediate cessation of all illegal
settlement activities in the occupied Syrian Golan and the Palestinian territories, including occupied Jerusalem.

The document called on ‘Israel’ to stop its attacks on Syria as it violates the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, threatens the lives of civilians, and hinders United Nations humanitarian operations.

The document stressed the categorical rejection of the imposition of laws and regulations with extraterritorial effects and all other forms of coercive economic measures, including unilateral measures, against developing countries.

The participants stressed continuing to work towards achieving a fair economic system in which developing countries have an active role and reforming the financial system in line with the developments and transformations that have occurred on the international scene over the past eight decades.

Syria participates in 154th session of the WHO Executive Board


Geneva, With the participation of Syria, the 154th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board started activities on Tuesday in Geneva, Switzerland, and will continue until Jan. 27th.

Delivering Syria’s speech, head of the Syrian delegation, Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Mohammad al-Ghobash called for reviewing the report issued by the organization on the effects of coercive measures on health conditions in the targeted countries.

He stressed the need to immediately end these unilateral measures without restrictions or conditions.

Minister al-Ghobash touched on the effects of the war that Syria is suffering from, in addition to the economic blockade and unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

The Health Minister noted that these measures hinder the development of comprehensive, qualitative health strategies to confront the difficulties and challenges of all health issues that Syria is witnessing.

Dr. al-Ghobash thanked the World Health Organization and the Director-
General of the Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, for standing by Syria, who visited Syria after the devastating earthquake to inspect what the earthquake left behind and to assess the urgent needs resulting from it.
