Kashf Observatory Participates in Sessions on Fact-Checking at Two Conferences in Sarajevo

The Palestinian Observatory for Verification and Media Education – Kashf concluded its participation in the Point12 conference organized by the Zasto Ne Center and the 11th World Conference on Fact-Checking organized by the International Fact-Checking Network every year, in the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo.

Reham Abu Aita, Director of Kashif Observatory, participated as a speaker in a session titled ‘The Power of Truth: Being a Journalist in Palestine.’ She spoke about the challenges facing fact-checkers in Palestine, especially in light of the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip, especially in light of the systematic targeting of journalists and the continuous interruption of communication and electricity in the Gaza Strip. During the session, a video clip produced by Kashif Observatory was shown about the Paliwood campaign targeting Palestinians and accusing them of faking martyrs and injuries in the Gaza Strip. The session was moderated by Tetiana Sevjetikanin from the Zasto Ne Center, along with colleague
Khaled Al-Faqih from the Watan Network, who spoke about the conditions of journalistic work in Palestine.

Abu Aita also spoke at the 11th Global Fact-Checking Conference, in a session on fact-checking during wars, in which she referred to the reality of journalists and fact-checkers in the Gaza Strip, the difficulty of accessing sources, psychological exhaustion, and the constant fear of being targeted. She also referred to technology companies blocking Palestinian content and reducing access to local and global audiences.

In a side session of the conference on fact-checking in the Middle East and North Africa, Abu Aita focused, in addition to the challenges, on the observatory’s efforts to confront disinformation and how the observatory was able to adapt to the new difficulties and expand its scope to reach local, Arab and international audiences
