Makkah: The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) successfully delivered its meteorological services throughout this year’s Hajj season. Operating around the clock, the NCM utilized the latest international practices and technologies for weather monitoring and observation. This resulted in an impressive 98% accuracy and consistency in its weather information.
The NCM also conducted a significant field research study this year. The study focused on the effects of weather elements, particularly those related to heat stress and sunstroke, inside and outside pilgrim camps in the holy sites. The findings from this research was used in collaboration with relevant authorities to implement measures aimed at reducing heat-related illnesses among pilgrims, ultimately decreasing hospital admissions.
The NCM’s dedication to supporting the Hajj season is further evidenced by its production of 2,339 meteorological bulletins, 231 awareness and educational materials in various languages, and 12 weather warnings issued fo
r Makkah city and the holy sites.
