Prime Minister of Lebanon’s Caretaker Government Meets with German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs

The Prime Minister of Lebanon’s Caretaker Government, Najib Mikati, met in Beirut on Tuesday, with Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock.

The meeting discussed bilateral relationship between the two countries and situation in Lebanon and the region.

According to the Prime Minister’s information office, Mikati affirmed that the key factor of restoring calm in the southern Lebanon lies in stopping the ongoing Israeli offensive and fully implementing the international resolution No. 1701.

He stressed the importance of stopping the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and reaching a comprehensive ceasefire and return to the two-state solution, enabling the Palestinian people to achieve their rights, and calling on the international community to take concrete steps toward a political resolution to the conflict in the Middle East.

For her part, Baerbock said the situation on the Blue Line is delicate and the risks are real. Therefore, she underlined, cooperation among all parties is
necessary to de-escalate tensions and achieve a ceasefire in Gaza that reflects a definitive halt to hostilities in the south.

It should be noted that the Israeli entity continues its offensive in towns and villages in southern Lebanon, concurrently with its relentless aggression on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, which resulted in casualties among civilians, in addition to forcing hundreds of families to flee their homes.
