Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is gearing up to host the 56th edition of the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), to be held here from from July 21 to July 30.

Over 340 students and 400 chemistry university professors and teachers from 90 countries will take part in this competition organized jointly by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and King Saud University, with exclusive sponsorship from the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC).

The competitions will take place at King Saud University.

IChO is one of the foremost global scientific competitions for high school students talented in chemistry. Its objectives include stimulating students’ interest in chemistry through solving independent and creative chemistry problems, boosting international communication in the field of chemistry, fostering friendships among young science-enthusiasts from different countries, promoting collaboration among students, and exc

Mawhiba Secretary-General and Chair of the Supervisory Committee for the Olympiad Dr. Amal bint Abdullah Al-Hazzaa stressed that hosting the chemistry Olympiad is a testimony to the support and attention the wise leadership gives talent, science, and innovation. She also said that the event underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to improving its regional and international standing, and nurturing globally competitive Saudi citizens, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

Al-Hazzaa said that Mawhiba has prepared for this significant scientific event by working on various parallel tracks, including by strengthening coordination with partners to ensure the exceptional hosting that befits the Kingdom’s stature and by preparing talented students for strong competition to achieve new national successes.

Members of the IChO International Steering Committee who visited Riyadh praised the level of readiness and preparations for this highly a

The committee members highlighted this during the meeting with Minister of Education Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan, who launched the promotional campaign for IChO in January; the meeting was also attended by Mawhiba secretary-general and supervisory committee members.
