Qatar junior handball team lose first match in Round 2 of Asian Championship

Muscat, Qatar’s Junior Handball Team lost 17/19 to Saudi Arabia in their first match in the second round of the 16th Asian Championship held here today in the Omani city of Salalah.

Qatar will play their next match in the second round on Saturday against Iran. Iran and Japan are with Qatar in the same group. I their third match of round 2 Qatar will meet Japan on Sunday.

14 national teams are participating in the 16th Asian Junior Handball Championship, which runs through July 26.

Head of Qatari delegation to the tournament Khalifa Tayseer expressed regret for the loss of a game that was within reach, especially in the beginning of the second half, where many opportunities were lost.

Qatar handball team repeat victory over Iran

DOHA, The Qatari handball team defeated their Iranian counterparts 27/17 in the second friendly match held in Doha on Friday as part of preparations for the 18th Asian Games to be held in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.

In the first match held on Thursday, the Qatari team recorded a 26-16 victory.

Qatar will also play two matches with Portugal’s Lisbon in early August before departing for Indonesia for the Asian Games.

The draw for the handball competitions at the 18th Asian Games put the Qatari team in Group A alongside the teams of Iran and Malaysia, the second group included South Korea, Japan and Pakistan, the third group included Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong, and fourth group Bahrain, Taipei, India and Iraq.

Qatar U-20 volleyball team ready for Asian Championship

Manama, Qatar U-20 Volleyball team have concluded their preparations for the 2018 Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship, which will begin Saturday in Bahrain and run through July 28. The Team lost their latest friendly match to Pakistan 18-25, 20-25 and 15-25.

After the match, Brazilian coach Percy Oncken gave the last minute instructions to his players, stressing that they are capable of giving great performance in the tournament. Qatar’s first match will be on Sunday against Bahrain.

The U-20 team will play their final practice to fine tune the plans and to focus on implementing the coach strategies.

The tournament starts tomorrow evening with seven games, as the first match will be in Group E between Saudi Arabia and China Taipei.

23 teams are taking part in the tournament after the withdrawal of Uzbekistan. Qatar is in Group D along with Iraq and Bahrain.
