Curtains come down on HH Amir Shooting Cup

DOHA, The competitions of the prestigious HH Amir Shooting Cup Championship 2019 were successfully concluded at Losail Shooting Range on Saturday.

In the Men’s rifle closing scene, , Mohammed Abo Taimah grabbed the gold medal, Mohammed Sobhi clinched the silver medal and the bronze medal went to Salman Kabol.

In Women’s Rifle ( moving target) final, Amal Mohammed seized the gold medal, Samsam Saleh took the silver medal and Saieeda Hameed grabbed the bronze medal.

In the Men’s Archery final, the winners were Ahmed Al Abadi (gold medal), Israf Khan ( silver medal) and Farhan Al Saadi ( bronze medal).

In the Men’s shotgun, Saieed Hamad won the gold medal, Mohammed Salman took the silver medal and the bronze medal went to Rashid Saleh Al Ezbah.

Ashghal Tenders Four Contracts for Small-Scale Qatari Contractors

As part of its keenness to provide a suitable environment for the growth of Qatari companies and in line with the objectives of the “Qualification of Small-Scale Contractors” initiative launched in January of 2018, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced on 23 April 2019 the tender of four contracts for road improvement projects at a total value of about QR 100 million.

Tendering these new four contracts is part of the second phase of the Qualification of Small-Scale Contractors Initiative, launched by Ashghal in the beginning of 2018. This initiative aims to provide the opportunity for Qatari investors in the construction sector to implement small projects that qualify them to be a part of the country’s strategic projects in the future, and to contribute to the local economy.

The first contract, initiated by the Public Works Authority, includes Road Improvement Works in Al Shamal Area� Phase 4A,covering several areas within the boundaries of Al Shamal, Al Khor, & Al Thakhira municipalities.

The second contract is the road improvement project in several areas of Greater Doha – Phase 6B, which includes several areas within Doha and Al Rayyan Municipalities.

The third contract includes the Road Improvement Works in the south of Greater Doha- Zone 90 to 95 � Phase 6B, covering several areas within Al Wakrah Municipality.

The fourth contract includes the Road Improvement Works in Al Rayyan Area� Phase 6B. It covers several areas within Al Rayyan Municipality.

The new projects are scheduled to commence in Q4, 2019, and will be implemented within a period of 540 days. The projects’ scope includes grading works, road pavement, construction of pedestrian lanes, and works to enhance traffic safety such as installation of directional and traffic signs as well as road markings.

It is worth mentioning that Ashghal will close the tender for these projects on Sunday 19 May 2019 and it urges the Qatari contractors wishing to participate to quickly register through Ashghal’s website.

Ashghal launched the “Qualification of Small-Scale Contractors” initiative in January 2018. It also announced the signing of four contracts within the first phase of the initiative in December 2018. The Small-Scale Contractors initiative aims to develop and support the local Qatari companies and encourage them to participate in roads projects, even if they have no previous experience in this field. The initiative provides the opportunity for these companies to develop and qualify their companies to compete in the domestic market and in the global market in the future. The initiative also aims to provide support to new contractors through training and by introducing them to best practices in project implementation.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid meets President of Belarus.

Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on the sidelines of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which concludes today in the Chinese capital Beijing.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed and Lukashenko discussed bilateral relations that have seen substantial growth over the past few years. They also discussed ways to boost trade between the two countries and promote investment opportunities.

Sheikh Mohammed and the President of Belarus discussed collaboration in energy, climate change and environmental sustainability, and expressed a desire to learn from each other’s success stories. They also expressed a commitment to further cement ties and explore new opportunities that serve common strategic interests.

The President of Belarus expressed his appreciation for the accelerated development the UAE has achieved. He also praised the UAE’s efforts to become an active partner in global development and expressed the hope that the UAE and Belarus can develop further cooperation in various fields, particularly in tourism and culture.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed launches six research centres at Zayed University.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Chairman of the Educational and Human Resources Council, has launched six new research centres at Zayed University.

“Only those who have the knowhow and advanced research centres can make changes for the better,” said H.H. Sheikh Abdullah during his visit to the University’s campus here where he was received by Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, and University President; Dr. Ahmad bin Abdullah Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education and Advanced Skills; Dr. Reyadh AlMehaideb, Vice President; and Dr Michael John Wilson, Provost; along with the University’s senior management team and deans.

“Providing Emirati young people with an innovation-conducive environment and advanced research skills and capabilities is a priority on the UAE government’s agenda in order to create a brighter future for current and next generations, and to consolidate the prestigious status boasted by our country on the international stage,” he added.

“Investments in education are a value inspired from the legacy of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who firmly believed in the importance of developing human resources, while placing his bet on the nation’s young people to achieve our ambitions toward progress, sustainable development and economic prosperity,” he noted.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah initiated the visit by a meeting with the university’s senior management team who presented an overview of the achievements and milestones made with regards to academic research and expansion plans of Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses.

He toured the university’s Promenade at the female students’ residence where he had group photos and changed cordial talk with the students.

The newly launched facilities include centres in the fields of prototype digital manufacturing; smart cities research; energy and environment economics; Arabic Language learning; in addition to Zayed Architecture Research Institute.

Qatar Airways and Orbital Education Celebrate the Official Opening of Oryx International School Campus at Mesaimeer

DOHA, Qatar Airways and Orbital Education have celebrated the Official Opening of the Oryx International School’s iconic new, purpose-built Mesaimeer campus on Sunday 28 April 2019.

Qatar’s Minister of Transport and Communications, His Excellency Mr. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, attended the official opening event, along with the Chairman of Orbital Education, Mr. Kevin McNeany.

The new Mesaimeer campus, which first opened its doors to Oryx International School students in September 2018, includes cutting-edge science and technology laboratories, inspiring performing arts facilities, a 25m indoor swimming pool, five-star sporting facilities and an ultramodern auditorium.

The school, which was initially located near the airline’s headquarters, has operated in partnership with Orbital Education since 2016 and offers a modified version of the National Curriculum of England for the children of Qatar Airways’ employees, from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 10.

UAE-China Consular Consultations Committee discusses cooperation.

The third session of the 28th UAE-China Consular Consultations Committee was held today in the Chinese capital of Beijing.

During the meeting, which was headed by Mansour Al Faheem, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Consular Affairs and Development of Proceeds, and Cui Aimin, Director-General of the Consular Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, both sides discussed key consular issues and how to strengthen consular cooperation between the UAE and China.

The meeting’s agenda also included travel advisories, judicial cooperation and exchanging consular expertise.

Al Faheem praised the relations between the UAE and China, while affirming the UAE’s keenness to strengthen these relations, reflecting the goals of their leaderships.

He added that the UAE and China are connected by strong diplomatic relations, which were established 35 years ago in November 1984, while valuing the historic visit of Xi Jinping, President of China, to the UAE, held from 19th to 21st July 2018, which advanced their bilateral ties.

Al Faheem also noted that the appointment of Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak as the UAE’s Special Envoy to China will strengthen their overall relations, in line with their visions to achieve development, growth and prosperity, especially in the areas of the economy, politics and culture.

The UAE’s consular efforts are key to advancing its relations with China and creating bilateral partnerships, Al Faheem said.

Mufti of Kazakhstan lauds UAE’s charity, humanitarian initiatives.

Serikbay kazhy Oraz, Kazakhstan’s Supreme Mufti, stated that the UAE is one of the first countries to launch charity and humanitarian projects in Kazakhstan since it gained independence.

He made this statement while receiving Hamad Salem bin Kordous Al Ameri, Director-General of Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Activities, and his delegation, accompanied by Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Ambassador to Kazakhstan.

Oraz welcomed the Emirati delegation and thanked the UAE Embassy for helping improve the overall cooperation between the two countries. He also thanked the foundation for launching Haj and Ramadan Iftar programmes in Kazakhstan.
