Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for International Affairs chairs meeting

Manama, The Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for International Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, chaired the second meeting of the working group on monitoring international indicators and reports formed by the decision of the National Information Committee, with the participation of a number of ministries and relevant government entities.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa explained that the meeting witnessed discussions and prioritization of international reports and indicators to support the national economy and raise competitiveness rates, in addition to the development of an action plan to enhance the international status of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Undersecretary for International Affairs stressed that the international indicators and reports adopted are of great importance as they contribute effectively to the measurement of the performance of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the framework of its development strategy, and drawing up, monitoring and evaluating public policies, as well as reflects the extent of progress in various fields, and the effort to improve indicators in these reports.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa pointed out that the Kingdom of Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, offers a unique international model in renewed reform and sustainable development according to international reports. The Kingdom is at the centre of the Arab and regional leadership in many development indicators such as education, health, communications, investment in individuals and many others, which reflect a distinguished and pioneering record of achievements for the welfare of citizens.

He also explained that monitoring of international reports, indicators and data is an important procedural step to enhance knowledge capacity building, performance development and policy evaluation, in addition it highlights progress in relevant sectors and glitches if any, he praised the integration of government efforts in the context of providing updated international organisations with information for adoption in their periodic reports on the Kingdom of Bahrain and the establishment of extended partnerships with prestigious international organisations.

He mentioned that the achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and shown in the first national voluntary report, makes the Kingdom a global development model abounding with qualitative achievements and creative initiatives, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s National Human Development Report, entitled Sustainable Economic Growth, prepared by DERASAT in collaboration with the United Nations Development Office, included a number of key international indicators as a contribution to the provision of best institutional practices and efficient use of available resources.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa noted that in this vital area we aim to collect data, statistics and exchange information, evaluate the performance of the database to enhance the quality of performance and excellence, also support the new economy sectors in line with the government plans, programs and the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

In conclusion, he praised the role and effort of the National Information Committee headed by Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Mutawa, on the flow, update and dissemination of correct information about the Kingdom being an indispensable pillar in the implementation of the SDGs 2030.
