OFF HE GOES battles hard for The Late Yousef Al Romaihi Cup victory

H.E. Sheikh Iman Bint Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s OFF HE GOES (Casino Prince x Perfectly Stunning) entered the winner’s circle for the third time in four races this season when the Julian Colin Smart trained gelding landed THE LATE YOUSEF AL ROMAIHI CUP (Far Bend) (Class 2 THOROUGHBREDS) in a thrilling finish at the Al Rayyan Park’s turf track on Thursday. In the 3,200m battle, Tomas Lukasek and his partner Off He Goes, fourth in the event two years ago, were locked in a battle with Umm Qarn’s DUKE OF DUNDEE (Duke of Marmalade x Santa Louisia) on the straight, and the latter under Ronan Thomas was close but eventually had to settle for runner up spot having finishing half a length behind the winner. Mohammed Hassan Ali Abdulmalik’s QUELINDO (Aussie Rules x Quintana) completed the top three under Ivan Rossi, as the Ahmed Kobeissi ward finished five lengths further back.

Jassim Bin Ali Al Attiyah’s US CLIFF (Footstepsinthesand x Challow Hills) led a one-two for trainer Gassim Ghazali when landing the THOROUGHBRED PLATE (3 Year Olds) (Class 2) (Far Bend) on Thursday. With Soufiane Saadi in the saddle, the bay colt was left with another Ghazali ward, Alberto Sanna ridden William Bligh, in the final stages of the 2000m event and US Cliff, maiden winner at Al Uqda earlier this month, edged out his rival by half a length.

Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s BOTTOM BAY (Oasis Dream x Coconut Kreek) won for the third time in his career with the gelding bagging the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 3) (Far Bend) (75-95) in a close finish on Thursday. Helmed by Khalid Al Balushi in the 2000m run, the Zuhair Mohsen trained 4yo beat Ivan Rossi and his partner She’s Our Queen by half a length, handing the apprentice rider his seventh win of the season.

Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s SKY BLUE (Zoffany x Blur) registered his second victory this season when Soufiane Saadi guided the gelding to a fine win in the LOCAL THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Far Bend) (70-90) on Thursday. Bader Al Balushi trained 5yo had two straight third place finishes coming into the 2000m run at Al Rayyan Park and the bay gelding built on that momentum to win for the third time overall, beating Meteb Ali Al Marri and his partner Aafreen by two lengths.

Abdulhadi Mana Al Hajri’s JIMMY SPARKS (Zoffany x Gale Song) registered his first victory in Qatar when the colt topped the THOROUGHBRED PLATE (3 Year Olds) (Class 3) (Far Bend) in a close finish. The Stefano Ibido schooled colt had Alberto Sanna for company in the six furlong sprint and the two did well to beat Anas Al Seyabi and his partner Lauded by a quarter of a length at the post.

Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s HADJIRA DE FLAUZINS (Josco Du Cayrou x Ishraf) had finished in the frame in four out of her six starts so far missing out on a victory. On Thursday at Al Rayyan Park turf, that changed as the Ali Yousuf Al Kubaisi trained 4yo bagged the PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE (Far Bend) with ease as Alberto Sanna guided the filly to a two length victory in the six furlong sprint.

Al Sakab Stud’s WATNAH AL SAKAB (TM Fred Texas x Al Zobara Al Sakab) made a winning start to her career when the grey filly landed the PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE (3 Year Olds) (Far Bend) in dominant fashion at Al Rayyan Park on Thursday. Helmed by Anas Al Seyabi, the Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki trained 3yo won the six furlong sprint that featured as many as seven debutants out of nine starters comfortably by five lengths.

Injaaz Stud’s POM MALPIC (Pomellato x Havanna Lady) went one better than her last outing to register her first victory in Qatar on Thursday. Helmed by Marco Casamento for the first time, the Ali Yousuf Al Kubaisi trained filly topped the THOROUGHBRED NOVICE PLATE (Class 6) (Far Bend) in a thrilling finish, edging out Anas Al Seyabi ridden Cruella Dovil by half a length.

Umm Qarn’s ABIDA (Dahess x Altesse D’aroco) completed a double after winning for the second straight week on Thursday. Handicap winner a week ago at Al Uqda Complex under Soufiane Saadi, the Alban Elie De Mieulle trained mare landed the LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN NOVICE PLATE (Far Bend) in fine fashion after the 5yo beat Khalid Al Balushi ridden Dalilak by a length at the post.
