A reception ceremony marking the 74th anniversary of founding the People’s Republic of China

Chinese Embassy in Damascus held a reception ceremony on occasion of the 74th anniversary of founding the People’s Republic of China at Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.

Delivering a speech, Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad said that the Syrian-Chinese relations are historic and always moving forward.

He underlined Syria’s support for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and also for initiatives launched to achieve development, peace and global civilization, especially the Belt and Road Initiative.

Mikdad hailed China’s stance towards Syria, which has been exposed to different challenges and difficulties due to the Western sanctions, noting that China did not allow the US to pass its colonial projects and used veto in Security Council several times to defend Syria.

Mikdad thanked China for providing aid to Syria, including vaccines, food, transport buses, clothing, tents, medicine, food, prefabricated housing units and other urgent rescue materials after the devastating earthquake that hit Syria last February.

In turn, the Chinese Ambassador Shi Hongwei underscored the depth of historical friendship biding China and Syria.

He stressed his country’s support for Syria’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing rejection of external interfering in its internal affairs, as well the illegitimate military presence in the country.

He called for ending the plundering of Syria’s natural resources and the immediate lifting of all unilateral and illegitimate sanctions imposed on its people.

Hongwei stressed China’s desire to discuss new means of cooperation with the Syrian side.

Special Adviser at the Presidency of the Republic, Buthaina Shaaban, said in a statement to journalists that the Syrian-Chinese relations are based on trust and a shared vision.

She considered that the Chinese vision towards the world is radically different from the Western vision, because China believes in the dignity, sovereignty and freedom of the people, no matter how big or small the country is.

Shaaban indicated that the global balance is changing slowly but surely in favor of China, Russia, Syria, and all countries aspiring to freedom, true democracy, and human rights, away from racism and Western hegemony.
