Arab Councils and Parliaments Speakers Approve Document on Achieving Safe Employment of AI


Cairo, Speakers of the Arab councils and parliaments convened today for the sixth conference of the Arab Parliament and the Speakers of the Arab Councils and Parliaments at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.

During the conference, a document titled “Arab Parliamentary Vision for Achieving Safe Employment of Artificial Intelligence” was approved. This document will be presented to Arab leaders at the upcoming Arab Summit.

The document encompasses a variety of recommendations and parliamentary insights aimed at improving governance over the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across Arab nations. These recommendations include establishing a robust legislative framework to oversee AI utilization, developing national strategies and plans for regulating AI applications, implementing early warning systems to continuously assess AI-related risks, and raising societal awareness about the challenges and ethical considerations associated with AI.

Additionally, the document stresses the importance of consideri
ng privacy, cultural nuances, and ethical standards within Arab societies when deploying AI technologies. It advocates for the localization of AI industries within Arab countries, leveraging AI capabilities in parliamentary activities, and active participation in international efforts to formulate a binding global agreement for regulating AI applications.

The preparatory committee for the conference held its meeting with the participating parliamentary delegations to discuss the draft document prepared by the Arab Parliament, with the involvement of Dr. Latifa Al-AbdulKarim, a member of the Saudi Shura Council.

The delegation of the Shura Council participating in the conference included the Speaker of the Shura Council, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, along with several members of the council.
