ARANDAS wins Ras Al Noof Cup at Al Uqda

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the third race meeting in the 2022-23 season at the Uqda Racecourse dirt track on Saturday, 3 December. The seven-race card day was wrapped up with the feature event, Ras Al Noof Cup, a Local Thoroughbred Open Race for three-year-olds and older. The day was concluded as it had begun with the colours of Sheikh Faisal Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani present at the winners’ enclosure following the success of the Khaled Mohamed Elahmed-trained Arandas (QA) (Namid x Adventuress) in the 1300m race. The 5YO grabbed Cup, having won the 14-runner contest by over two lengths under jockey Carlos Henrique. The Al Jeryan Stud -owned and M.H.K Al Attiyah-trained Latamah (QA) (Pivotal) finished second under Szczepan Mazur, a length ahead of last year’s winner, the Sabhea Awad Ibrahim-owned and Ibrahim Khaled Elahmed-trained Dhergham Bu Thaila (QA) (Soviet Secret).

Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners after the final race of the day.

Hallab

The opening race of the meeting went to Sheikh Faisal Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani’s homebred Hallab (QA) (Trade Storm x Neutron Bomb), who won the 1300m Local Thoroughbred Maiden for 3–6YOs by over a length to give trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed and jockey Alberto Sanna a good start to the day’s racing. The 3YO gelding was rewarded for his last two consistent runner-up finishes.

Mystical Music

The Nasser Saeed Al Eida-owned Mystical Music (GB) (Al Kazeem x Midnight Dance), on Qatar debut, won the second race, a1300m Maiden for 3–6YO Thoroughbreds. Ridden by Lukas Delozier, the Gassim Ghazali-trained 3YO gelding hit the line a length ahead of his nearest rival.

Rabshah

Al Shaqab Racing’s homebred Rabshah (FR) (TM Fred Texas x Ajdabya), at just her second time of asking, went one better to win the third race, a 1300m Maiden for 3-6YO Purebred Arabians. Under jockey Pranil Arvind, the Eric Lemartinel-trained 4YO filly stretched over a length clear at the line.

Dawi

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Dawi (FR) (Amer x Djamour Des Forges), on his seasonal debut, won the Novice for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians. The Rudy Nerbonne-trained 5YO put in an excellent performance to take the 2000m race by almost two lengths, completing a double on the day for jockey Lukas Delozier in the fourth race of the day.

Dhamir

In a brilliant finish to the fifth race, a 2000m Handicap (65-85) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds, the Mohammed Khamis Eisa Al Kaabi-owned Dhamir (FR) (Elusive City x Parandeh) pipped Admiraal (GB) (Pivotal) by a head to give trainer Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki and jockey Tomas Lukasek a winner on the card.

Ezzat Nafs

In the penultimate race of the day, Sabhea Awad Ibrahim’s homebred Ezzat Nafs (QA) (AF AlBahar x Bint Al Ajwad) picked up her second win in a row, as the 5YO mare charged home to take the 1300m Handicap (85-105) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians by two lengths, giving trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed and jockey Alberto Sanna a double on the day.
