Billion Year Old Soil Extracted From Antarctica by Russian Scientists

Moscow, The All-Russia Scientific Research Institute for Geology and Mineral Resources of the Ocean revealed that its experts were able to extract soil from Antarctica, that is about one billion years old.

Deputy Director General of the Institute, German Lichenkov, said that For the first time in history, Russian scientists were able to extract soil from Antarctica that is about a billion years old.

Researchers from Petersburg and a laboratory affiliated with a Chinese university participated in the research project during which the aforementioned samples were extracted, he added.

The All-Russia Scientific Research Institute for Geology and Mineral Resources of the Ocean is considered one of the most important scientific institutions concerned with conducting geological and scientific studies, and has contributed to hundreds of research in this field.
