Environment Ministry Clears Over 2.1 Million Heads of Livestock Since Start of Dhu Al-Qi’dah in Preparation for Hajj Season 1445 AH


Arafat: The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture said it cleared 2,112,749 heads of live livestock (sheep, cows, camels) from 1 Dhu Al-Qi’dah to 4 Dhu Al-Hijjah 1445 AH, to meet the high demand for livestock during the Hajj season. According to the ministry, of these, 2,097,753 were goats, 10,611 camels, and 4,385 cows.

The ministry stressed that it constantly monitors the work at various quarantine facilities to ensure an adequate supply of healthy live livestock during this year’s Hajj season.

It also said that it facilitates the smooth entry of live livestock shipments into the Kingdom and supports laboratories and quarantine facilities with veterinary personnel to ensure swift processing and prevent shipment logjams.

The ministry said that there are 10 land, air, and sea quarantine facilities through which livestock are allowed entry, and that imported livestock is quarantined until all procedures are completed and the national immunization program is applied.

Moreover, there are 13 interna
tionally approved quarantine facilities in exporting countries, where livestock are quarantined for a period ranging from 15 to 21 days.
