For the Second Time in a Row, the Global Research Council Re-Elects the Kingdom for the Role of Vice Chair for Its Governing Board

Riyadh: The Governing Board of the Global Research Council today voted unanimously to re-elect the representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Dr. Munir bin Mahmoud Eldesouki, for the position of Vice Chair of the Governing Board of the Council, during the Council’s 12th annual meeting, which took place in Interlaken, Switzerland, in 2024.

The re-election of the representative of the Kingdom and the MENA region to this leadership position in the Global Research Council for the second time in a row since its establishment in 2012 confirms the Council’s confidence in the Kingdom’s pioneering role in contributing to achieving the Council’s vision and future goals. It also confirms the high status of the Kingdom and its efforts in promoting research, development and innovation at the regional and global levels, and its prominent role in enhancing joint regional work between research councils in the MENA region to strengthen its presence and its contribution to the advancement of knowledge and i
nnovation at the global level.

The Kingdom participates as a member of the Global Research Council, and chairs its periodic regional meetings for the MENA region. The Council consists of the heads of research councils and institutions that fund research and development activities globally. It aims to improve communication and cooperation between research councils and institutions that fund research and development activities worldwide, enhance the exchange of information and best practices for high-quality research cooperation among them, and explore mechanisms that support scientific research institutions globally, in addition to addressing issues of supporting research and development activities, and organizing research councils and financing institutions seeking to build their capabilities with international standards.
